Former Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has shared a message celebrating Galatasaray’s Turkish Cup triumph following Victor Osimhen’s standout performance in the final.

The Nigeria international, who is linked with a move to Old Trafford, is expected to depart Napoli this summer after a public fallout with manager Antonio Conte. Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan last September and has played a significant role in their domestic success.

Meanwhile, United head coach Ruben Amorim is keen to strengthen his attack, with goals proving scarce from Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund this season. Despite reports that he could leave the Turkish giants in January due to a break clause in his loan deal with Napoli, a move failed to materialise, and he has continued to find the net regularly in Turkey.

Osimhen has scored 35 goals and provided eight assists in 39 games so far. That tally is more than double the combined total of goals scored by Hojlund and Zirkzee this season (17).

He played a key role in Galatasaray’s Turkish Cup triumph, scoring twice in their 3-0 victory over Trabzonspor on Wednesday night. The win secured the club’s 19th cup title.

On Thursday morning, Mata, who left United to join the Turkish outfit for the 2022/23 campaign, took to X and shared a trophy emoji along with red and yellow hearts – celebrating Galatasaray’s triumph.

Previously speaking about his future, Osimhen said: “A decision will be made at the end of the season about what will be best for everyone. Galatasaray will forever be in my heart. There are always rumours about me, of course, but I prefer to live in the moment.

“I am enjoying myself right now; I am enjoying both the club and my life here. The fans have also been incredibly supportive since the first day.”

MEN Sport understands that United are targeting Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap to be their main striker next season but defender Rio Ferdinand has always suggested that Osimhen would be a wiser purchase, despite costing at least double the Englishman’s relegation release clause.
