Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly plotting a transfer approach for striker Rasmus Hojlund ahead of the summer window.

Mourinho, who joined Turkish club Fenerbahce last summer, has enjoyed a respectable first season in Turkey but will know that improvements are needed to catch city rivals Galatasaray next year. Powered by Nigerian centre-forward Victor Osimhen, Galatasaray are on the verge of winning the Turkish Super Lig this season with Mourinho’s men looking destined to finish second.

A runners-up place at a minimum is guaranteed for Fenerbahce which means they will enter the Champions League qualifiers next season at a minimum. While Osimhen is likely to leave Galatasaray in the summer when his loan deal expires, Mourinho still wants to improve his attack and, according to Sozcu, Hojlund is on his shortlist.

The Dane has struggled this season in the Premier League but is not alone when you consider the season United have had. The 22-year-old has reached double figures for the season but of his ten goals, only four have come in the Premier League.

This has led to speculation that United will be looking to replace him and MEN Sport understands Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap is top of their wishlist heading into the summer transfer window. The Turkish report claims that Mourinho has already prepared his first offer to United, which would be a loan deal for the season with an option to buy next summer.

Considering United’s current financial situation, this sort of deal looks unlikely to be accepted, as sales are needed to help fund Ruben Amorim’s rebuild this summer. The report adds that it is unclear how much Fenerbahce would be willing to pay to sign Hojlund permanently, but that could be an option to get the deal done.
