Reacting to Garnacho’s contribution, Scaloni said, “The national team needs no one to relax, for there to be a stimulus.”
“We didn’t have Leo (Messi), Angel won’t be there, and we need to see players who can come in.”
The former West Ham defender added, “Alejandro came in and did everything well. (But) we need to take it slowly, calmly, like with the younger players.”
Scaloni further stated (via TyC Sports), that his decision to thrust Garnacho into the action was motivated by the fact that the Albiceleste were edging closer to grabbing the win.
“And he did what he did, which was very good.”
Despite bursting onto the scene at United, Garnacho has had to wait for his opportunities on the international stage.
Over the years, Argentina have been stacked with incredible attacking talent but the retirement of Di Maria and the fact that Messi is approaching the latter years of his career with the side means that there is now a real opening for Garnacho to stake his claim for a regular starting berth.
