Former Manchester United midfielder Charlie Savage is wanted by Championship duo Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers.
The 22 year old signed his first professional deal at Old Trafford in 2021 and made his senior debut as a substitute in the Champions League later that year.
The midfielder would play at academy level for the Red Devils but went out on loan to Forest Green in January 2023.
He would find first team opportunities impossible to come by at Old Trafford and he was sold to Reading in July 2023.
The midfielder was massively important for his side last season, playing 51 games in all competitions. He was also incredibly productive, scoring seven goals and providing a fantastic 13 assists.
This fine form has naturally attracted the interest of Championship teams.
The Reading Chronicle report that “Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers are keen on Reading midfielder Charlie Savage this summer.”
The Royals were just three points off a playoff position in League One last season but Savage may fancy his chances of taking an immediate step up to England’s second tier competition.
The outlet states, “finding form and excelling under Noel Hunt, the Wales international registered the second-most assists in League One last season and became a true fans’ favourite.”
Wrexham have also been linked with a move but it is the former Premier League duo who have expressed the strongest interest so far.
Nonetheless, it is “understood that the player is happy in Berkshire and has no desire to leave this summer.”
United will be keeping a keen eye on proceedings as they have a 50 percent sell-on clause from any future sale. For this reason, Reading would require a “substantial” sum to even consider letting go of the Carrington graduate.
