“Direct meetings” held as United close in on blockbuster signing of CL hero, Amorim is a huge admirer – report

Manchester United paraded their new summer signings in front of a packed Old Trafford before their pre-season friendly against Fiorentina on Saturday.

Despite three incomings to improve the team’s attack, Ruben Amorim needs further help, both in midfield and in goal.

Andre Onana did not play against the Serie A side, but he remains confident of being fit to play the season opener against Arsenal.

But his errors last season have meant the head coach remains far from convinced, which explains the Red Devils’ interest in Gianluigi Donnarumma of Paris Saint-Germain.

Donnarumma on his way out

Their chances of capturing the Italian received a major boost when the Champions League winners announced the signing of Lucas Chevalier.

PSG are now open to the ex-AC Milan ace’s departure, and as per Centredevils, United have been in direct contact with the Italy international.

Amorim is reportedly a fan, and is pushing for his signing this summer.

“CentreDevils can reveal that Manchester United have held direct meetings for the Italy international.

“The 26-year-old is being considered as an option for the goalkeeper position in Ruben Amorim’s squad, with the Portuguese manager being a big fan of Donnarumma.”

No price is mentioned in the report, but The Peoples Person had previously relayed that the Parisian giants value their shot-stopper at more than £30 million, while INEOS were preparing an opening offer in the region of £26 million.

Whether they have the money to pull off this deal remains to be seen. Senne Lammens of Royal Antwerp seems a more gettable target at the moment.

A lot will depend on player sales, with the Old Trafford side also eyeing Brighton’s Carlos Baleba to shore up the midfield.
