“For sure, we can…”: Rival manager highlights urgent transfer “need” with £70m United star firmly on his club’s radar

Enzo Maresca has openly admitted that his Chelsea side are targeting a winger this winter, an admission that could provide a boost to Manchester United’s transfer plans this summer.

United are expected to cash in on Alejandro Garnacho after the young winger’s fallout with head coach Ruben Amorim following the UEFA Europa League final.

While several clubs across Europe have been credited with an interest in the 20-year-old, it has now emerged that he wishes to remain in the Premier League.

In England, Aston Villa and Chelsea have emerged as potential destinations.

However, with Champions League football on offer at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea are likely to be his preferred choice.

Links between Garnacho and the west London side are not new. During the winter transfer window, aside from Napoli, the Blues were reportedly keen on signing him.

Chelsea want a winger; Garnacho is available

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s first match against Los Angeles FC at the FIFA Club World Cup, Maresca confirmed the club’s desire for a winger signing this summer.

Addressing the media (via Hayters), he acknowledged that Jadon Sancho’s return to United has left Chelsea’s wide options limited:

“Jadon [Sancho] is not with us, so for sure, that is a position we need to do something about.

“We have Noni [Madueke], Pedro [Neto] and [Tyrique George] only as the proper wingers, so something for sure is going to happen. When the transfer window is open, for sure, we can do something.”

With Chelsea keen to strengthen their wide options and United ready to cash in on a player they have long admired, speculation over Garnacho’s potential move to Stamford Bridge continues to grow.

Gittens or Garnacho?

The UEFA Europa Conference League holders tried to sign Jamie Bynoe-Gittens before the Club World Cup but failed.

They could reignite their interest in the Borussia Dortmund winger, but with him featuring at the Club World Cup, securing a deal for him may prove challenging at the moment.

For INEOS, hopefully, Chelsea can make progress in their pursuit of Garnacho in the meantime. His agent is actively offering him to Premier League sides, and if they genuinely believe he is the right fit, they should act quickly.

With the Argentine’s experience in England’s top flight, and a return of 10 goals and 11 assists last season, Garnacho should be among Chelsea’s most attractive winger targets.
