Manchester United have suffered a fatal blow in their pursuit of Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen as full agreement is reached for him to join a rival Premier League club.
United could sign a goalkeeper this summer
Having wrapped up a deal for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, who is on the verge of finalising his transfer to United, the Red Devils are set to shift their attention to other areas of the squad.
United recently expressed an interest in Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and that could very well be the next item on their agenda. However, there have also been suggestions that there may be an addition in the goalkeeping department.
Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir both made several high-profile mistakes last term and there is very little confidence in the pair heading into the new season. United are believed to be open to offers for both shot-stoppers but concrete proposals have yet to arrive.
However, United are still keeping tabs on a number of players including Gianluigi Donnarumma (Paris Saint-Germain), Emi Martinez (Aston Villa) and Senne Lammens (Royal Antwerp).
A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Ruben Amorim’s side were also considering making a move for Hermansen.
Hermansen was on United’s list
Despite Leicester’s relegation, Hermansen still managed to impress, producing some fine performances between the sticks.
He was a crucial figure for the Foces, often keeping them in games they had no business staying in, while also showing he had the quality to perform at a much higher level.
However, United were not the only interested party in the Dane. West Ham boss Graham Potter identified him as a primary target, prompting the Hammers to quickly move in and agree personal terms with his camp.
It was mentioned that a club-to-club agreement between Leicester and West Ham was the only thing standing between United and completely missing out on Hermansen.
Now, the game is over for United as the two sides have struck a deal.
United miss out on Hermansen
Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett wrote on X, “West Ham have agreed an £18m fee with Leicester City for goalkeeper Mads Hermansen. He will travel to London now for a medical and discuss personal terms.”
“Deal looked dead last week, when Hammers courted Botafogo keeper John Victor, but Hermansen always Potter’s first choice.”
This information has been corroborated by the reliable Ben Jacobs.
If United plan to move forward with signing a goalkeeper, they will now have to rule Hermansen out as an option.
