Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has agreed to join Trabzonspor on loan for the season as per Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian gave his trademark “Here we go” phrase to signify that the player has given his green light and the deal has been officially agreed between both parties.
Now all that is left is for the Cameroonian to travel to Turkiye for the medical and subsequent contract signing.
The deal will be a straight loan, with no loan fee involved. Trabzonspor will not have a buy option included in the move, which means the 29-year-old will return to Manchester next season.
Here we go
“EXCLUSIVE: André Onana agrees to join Trabzonspor, here we go! All contracts are now signed on player side, waiting on counter approval from Trabzonspor and travel next week.
“Deal done on loan from Manchester United as revealed on Saturday, no buy option or loan fee,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The Peoples Person had relayed that the player had given his green light and the move was expected to be completed within 24 hours.
While it is an initial loan, this deal represents the end of Onana’s stay in Manchester, and once he does come back, there is very little chance of him being reintegrated into the squad.
This marks a dramatic change in fortunes for the former Inter Milan shot-stopper, who was the undisputed No.1 since joining the Old Trafford side in 2023 under Erik ten Hag.
End of Onana’s United career
But his high-profile errors became too hard to ignore, and his gaffes against Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup proved to be the final straw.
Amorim has not handed the Cameroon international a single start in the Premier League this season, with Altay Bayindir preferred in his stead.
With the deadline day addition of Senne Lammens, Andre Onana’s minutes would likely decrease even further.
As a result, he agreed to the move despite expressing his desire to stay and fight for his place in the summer.
INEOS and Amorim have operated with cold, hard ruthlessness and efficiency this summer, which will please the fans, who have been demanding for such an approach for a long time now.
