Marcus Rashford is set to join Barcelona on loan.
The Manchester United man asked to leave the club last winter after being dropped from the first XI by the then new head coach, Ruben Amorim.
The England man spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, but the midlands club decided against paying the optional £40 million redemption figure.
On returning to Old Trafford, Rashford has made it clear he wants to move to Barcelona and now has his chance following the Blaugrana’s failed attempts to sign Nico Williams and Luis Diaz.
Earlier this afternoon, we relayed David Ornstein’s report in The Athletic claiming that all sides had reached an agreement on the basic structure of a season-long loan deal, again, with a buy option.
Here we go
Ornstein’s word is good enough, but it has been corroborated now by another top reporter, Fabrizio Romano, who has uttered his trademark “here we go!” catchphrase to announce the deal is done.
Romano said: “Marcus Rashford to Barcelona, here we go! Verbal agreement in principle between all parties involved with Barça planning for medical tests next days.
“Loan deal with buy option, details being finalised today then Man Utd will authorize his travel to Spain.”
Ornstein reveals surprising salary conditions
Romano’s post on X was quickly followed by Ornstein again, with some key news.
“Barcelona set to pay whole Marcus Rashford salary as part of proposed transfer from Manchester United.
“Impending loan plus option to buy includes 100% wage coverage by FC Barcelona as all parties work to finalise deal for 27 year old United attacker.”
The loan fee has not been reported at this stage, nor has the eventual redemption figure.
INEOS will be delighted to get the entirety of Rashford’s £325,000 per week wages off their books and although they would have liked a transfer fee for the striker, that could still be to come and in the meantime they will have saved around £17 million on a year’s salary.
