Man United given four transfer green lights as stars worth £255million want move

Manchester United have their eyes on a quarter-of-a-billion pounds worth of top talent

A bubble is approaching Manchester United’s summer transfer window, following weeks of encouraging speculation around Old Trafford. And when it pops, there’s enough reasonable suspicion to believe a slew of transfer activity will unfold under Michael Carrick.

Not including the signature of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, who already looks all set to make a £39million move to the Theatre of Dreams. But rather, there’s a production line of four alternative targets waiting to be scooped up following reports of unrest at their current clubs.

That may not be the case for said targets were it not United in the running to recruit them. Here, MEN Sport analyses the four big moves that could well materialise in the coming weeks if United show the appropriate motivation in the transfer window.

Lewis Hall – £80m

One potential signing United fans are hoping to see advance as they search for a new long-term solution at left-back. Lewis Hall has the makings to be the second coming of Luke Shaw, and The Sun has reported he’s keen on a move to Old Trafford after supposedly falling out with manager Eddie Howe.

Shaw, 30, is set to enter the last 12 months of his current contract, and it’s uncertain whether he’ll earn an extension given the extent of his injury issues over the years. Former Chelsea prospect Hall, 21, is said to be keen on Champions League football, which only adds to the list of reasons a United move makes sense.

Tyrell Malacia failed to bear fruit at left-back before Patrick Dorgu was moved into a more advanced wing role, where he has thrived. That leaves United once again searching for reinforcements in the role, though Hall would be on the more costly side at an estimated £80m.

Mateus Fernandes – £80m

Also in that price bracket is Mateus Fernandes, arguably the most valuable among West Ham’s fire-sale assets this summer. There’s no doubt the player has the quality to cut it in a Champions League squad, and United just so happen to be in the market for a second midfielder in addition to Ederson.

The message appears to be clear following the Hammers’ relegation: certain stars are available for the right price. Therein lies the only sticking point with Fernandes, as reports have suggested United aren’t willing to meet his £80m valuation.

Latest reports have suggested United and Fernandes, who is also a target for Tottenham, have already reached an agreement on personal terms. That being just about the clearest indicator a player is content over a move without pen being put to paper.

Thousands of Man United fans upgraded their matchday last season. This is how they did it.

Crysencio Summerville – £50m

Another West Ham talent who looks certain to move this summer, Crysencio Summerville’s path is complicated by his World Cup commitments. The Dutchman scored in each of the Netherlands’ first two fixtures in North America and has only added value to his signature as a result.

Like with Fernandes, it’s seen only as a matter of ‘when’ and not ‘if’ Summerville departs the London Stadium this summer. Again, Spurs are reported to be challengers for the £50m-rated winger, who doubled his price tag in an encouraging season for West Ham despite their drop down to the Championship.

Lucas Bergvall – £45m

One name who hasn’t appeared as regularly in the summer headlines is Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall. However, concerning United’s hunt for fresh midfield talent, the Swede has long-standing links with the club following two unsuccessful trials in the past.

Bergvall, who is currently away with his country at World Cup 2026, trained with United during his teen years at boyhood club Brommapojkarna. He also spent time on trial with Bayern Munich and Juventus during that period, but ended up at Tottenham in 2024.

It’s reported that the all-action midfielder is considering his future at Spurs and could be ready to try his hand at a new challenge. And at a reported valuation of £45m, five times what he cost Spurs just two years ago, the north Londoners may be tempted into selling.
