Manchester United aren’t giving up amid their public pursuit for Bryan Mbeumo – despite seeing two bids turned down by Brentford. Speculation around the 25-year-old has continued into July with the Bees holding firm.
Should United manage to get the deal over the line and Ruben Amorim gets his hands on Mbeumo, the forward will have a dream welcome present waiting for him. Many footballers adore certain shirt numbers – and can often wear the same one throughout their career.
At Brentford, Mbeumo has played with No.19 on his back since he joined the club from Troyes in 2019. At United, No.19 is currently unassigned and is available for him to wear.
Raphael Varane was the last player to take the number during his three-year spell before he left on a free transfer in 2024. Amad, Marcus Rashford, Danny Welbeck and Dwight York have all had the number in United’s history.
If Mbeumo wanted to choose another number, there are more options available to him now Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans have left. No.14, No.2 and No.25 are all now vacant. It is also worth pointing out that Matheus Cunha hasn’t been assigned a shirt number – as things stand.
High-profile numbers currently unassigned include No.19, No.27, No.28, No.29 and No.30. Depending on whether or not United can get Marcus Rashford (No.10), Alejandro Garnacho (No.17), Jadon Sancho (No.25) and Antony (No.21) out the door, more numbers will be open for Mbeumo to pick from.
