Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim gives injury update on Mason Mount – ‘We never know’

Man Utd play Wolves in the Premier League on Tuesday and Ruben Amorim has explained his team selection.

Ruben Amorim has confirmed Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount is absent against Wolves due to a “small” injury. Mount picked up the issue against Newcastle and was substituted at half-time.

Joshua Zirkzee has taken Mount’s place in the XI against Wolves, which is the only change from the Newcastle victory. Amorim confused Eddie Howe by tweaking his tactics on Boxing Day – playing with a back four – and a similar approach is expected against Wolves tonight.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of kick-off, Amorim was asked to provide an update on Mount’s injury situation, and he explained: “He felt something, but I think it’s small, I think it’s not going to take a long time, but we never know. He’s not ready for this game, but let’s focus on this game.”

Amorim discussed Zirkzee and encouraged the forward to vindicate his selection. “He just needs to do his part, show his talent, he’s a talented guy,” said Amorim. “He needs to step up in the duels, because the rest he has that, the fans love it, but just that – do his job and have fun.”

United won 4-1 against Wolves at Molineux earlier this month, but Amorim warned against complacency at Old Trafford. “Completely different game,” he said about the Midlands side.

“We don’t know what kind of formation they’re going to play so we need to be ready for everything. It’s a different team, same responsibility. Man United, in our shirts, we need to perform and we need to win.”

Asked about United’s formation, Amorim added: “We are going to play with 11 players and the formation is not the important thing. The important thing is the spirit, our pace during the game and our formation can change during the game.”
