Marcus Rashford once again shone in the Champions League as Barcelona secured an emphatic 6-1 home victory against Olympiakos.
The out-on-loan Manchester United forward continued his impressive form in the competition, scoring a brace in the second half and also winning a penalty for his team. As a result, he’s now level with France star Kylian Mbappe in goal contributions in the tournament.
Real Madrid’s main striker has five goals, while Rashford has four goals and one assist. Meanwhile, United have struggled for goals so far this season, with Bruno Fernandes, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko all scoring two goals each.
It appears that Rashford could guide United to better days, as speculation over his future continues. The 27-year-old, who is on loan at Barcelona for the rest of the season, is available for £30million next summer.
Flick’s message to sporting director Deco was simple regarding Rashford: “I told him we have to do it,” he said. “Marcus is an outstanding player, exactly what we needed.”
On his contribution to the team, Flick added: “Rashford is a good option as a No.9, but he can also play as an No.11. That’s what we thought when we signed him: he can play as a No.9 or No.11, and it’s great to have him in our team.
“He’s improved a lot in recent weeks, he gives us a lot of positives, and of course, he can play as a No.9.”
