Official: United Women confirm signing of decorated serial winner in statement move

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Fridolina Rolfo, who has joined the club from Barcelona.

United aiming to build on positive season

United enjoyed a superb 2024/25 Women’s Super League campaign despite suffering a heavy defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

United finished in third place in the WSL, securing a spot in the Champions League second round.

Marc Skinner’s side delivered several standout performances and will undoubtedly aim to build on those positives heading into the 2025/26 campaign.

At the end of last month, United announced the signing of Julia Zigiotti Olme on a two-year contract, with the option to extend for an additional 12 months.

The midfield completed a switch to United from Bayern Munich.

Now, United have announced a second summer arrival – Fridolina Rolfo

United sign Rolfo

Earlier on Friday, United released a statement confirming that Rolmo has put pen to paper on a deal running until June 2027.

She played a significant role in Barcelona’s domination of European football since she joined them from Wolfsburg four years ago.

The versatile attacker won 13 trophies, including four Liga F titles and two Champions Leagues.

Reacting to her United move, Rolfo said, “It’s really exciting to be joining Manchester United, not just because of the size and history of the club, but also to become part of the journey the club is on in the women’s game.”

“I have been fortunate to enjoy lots of success at Barcelona and other clubs I have played for, and now I want the same at Manchester United. The WSL is probably the strongest league in the world right now, so that was a big part of the appeal of coming here, as well as the chance to help the team establish itself in the Champions League.”

“I can’t wait to work with Marc, his staff and my new team-mates and get started with this new adventure in my career.’

Matt Johnson, director of women’s football at United, remarked, “Fridolina is one of the most talented and successful players in the women’s game, both at club and international level. She will add quality and experience to our squad, and the winning mentality of someone with over 20 major honours and 100 international caps.”

“Her signing demonstrates the ambition we have to compete at the highest level in domestic and European competition, and we are delighted to welcome Fridolina to Manchester United.”

This summer, Rolfo helped Sweden reach the quarterfinals of the Women’s Euros, where they were eliminated by England in a pulsating penalty shootout.
