Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund is rediscovering his best with Napoli and Antonio Conte only has good things to say about the loanee
Rasmus Hojlund was on the scoresheet once again for Napoli this weekend as the Manchester United loanee continued to showcase his ability in front of goal this season.
The striker scored both goals as the Italian champions defeated Cremonese on Sunday, in his latest statement for the Naples-based side. He has now scored seven goals in 19 appearances this season, just three less than the ten he managed for United last term.
Hojlund moved to italy on a season-long loan on deadline day after United opted to spend big on Benjamin Sesko. The deal includes an obligation for Napoli sign the Denmark international on a permanent deal if they qualify for the Champions League.
Following the win in Cremona, Hojlund took to Instagram to post a message to his fans. Posing with the Serie A Man of the Match trophy, he wrote: “Christmas came late this year.”
Bryan Mbeumo, Patrick Dorgu, Andre Onana and Ethan Wheatley were among the thousands who liked the striker’s post within the first hour. Napoli boss Antonio Conte went on to praise his striker following the win, in comments that spoke volumes about the player’s standing in his side: “Hojlund is a player who, first of all, is very young, but above all, has a lot of room for improvement.
“He’s becoming a dominant player in that position. He’s very connected to the team. In my style of football, everyone knows that strikers have a very important and unique role.
“The road to success? Annibale said that there isn’t a road, it has to be built. We are doing it despite the great difficulties.” He added: “We’re celebrating a wonderful year where we achieved something extraordinary and unexpected.
“We crowned the Scudetto with the Super Cup, where we beat Milan and Bologna. It was a wonderful year, full of emotions. Napoli, when you win, makes you celebrate in a different way. We’re up there in the league and we’re trying to stay close to the top spots. This season, we’re facing several challenges, and we’re always facing them with courage.”
Hojlund form comes amid doubts about United’s current attacking options. Sesko has managed just two goals since his move from RB Leipzig, and Joshua Zirkzee has been tipped to secure a return to Italy in January.
However, Amorim has admitted that a move for any of his players next month will only be completed if they can bring in a replacement. “It’s going to be hard for someone to leave the club if we don’t get a substitution,” he said.
“We are a club with a big responsibility. We are dealing with all these issues and in [the media’s] heads, in my head, in everybody’s head, we need to win every game. It doesn’t matter. There are no excuses.”
