Wrexham are reportedly considering a bold move to sign Manchester United star Christian Eriksen.
Wrexham have become a global sensation since being taken over by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in 2021.
The Welsh club have made history by becoming the first team across the top five tiers of English football to secure three consecutive promotions, propelling them from the National League all the way to the Championship.
They’ve also found remarkable success off the pitch, securing lucrative sponsorship deals and significantly boosting their global profile through the hit documentary ‘Welcome to Wrexham.’
A crucial factor behind Wrexham’s rise has been their strategy of recruiting players with experience at higher levels, bringing quality to their squad.
Former Premier League players such as Jay Rodriguez, James McClean, Steven Fletcher and Ben Foster have lined up for the Red Dragons.
A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Wrexham were keen on signing Jonny Evans. However, that did not materialise as the veteran defender called time on his professional career. His last game was United’s 3-1 comeback victory over Hong Kong in their post-season tour in Asia.
Now, Wrexham podcast Fearless in Devotion claim the club are interested in Eriksen, with manager Phil Parkinson said to be leading the pursuit.
Last month, United confirmed Eriksen will be leaving Old Trafford when his contract expires in at the end of June.
One of Fearless in Devotion’s hosts, Tim, said, “Apparently, yeah, apparently, Parky is interested in signing Christian Eriksen.”
“Now again, sort of the pre-fit for what we have is of a certain age of a certain experience. And he is of a certain age, and he comes with bags of experience.”
“So, we’re in a weird position where it’s almost impossible to chuck any of these ideas out and dismiss them as complete lunacy because it’s Wrexham, isn’t it? Anything is possible.”
“I don’t see it because I think there’s only so many players you can afford where the wages are going to be obscene.”
As Tim points out, meeting Eriksen’s wage demands will likely be a huge challenge for Wrexham. It’ll be fascinating to see if they decide to push forward with their interest and how things unfold if they do.
