Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has told Manchester United to bring Rasmus Hojlund back to the club this summer, as well as signing two new central midfielders. Hojlund is currently on loan with Napoli, with the club having the option to make the move permanent.
The Denmark international struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford after moving from Atalanta in the summer of 2023. In his first season, he scored 10 Premier League goals, but only managed four in the 2024/25 campaign.
This season, the 23-year-old has scored 14 times in all competitions for Napoli. The Italian club’s sporting director Giovanni Manna has confirmed that there are ‘no doubts’ that Hojlund will sign permanently in the summer.

Despite only being at the club on an interim basis, Michael Carrick is the favourite to take the head coach job permanently in the summer. Giggs has already sent his advice on some of the decisions he should make in the summer transfer window.
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, he said: “Let’s see what he can do with a pre-season and getting in the players that he wants and then, obviously, he’s got big decisions with the likes of Marcus [Rashford], Hojlund, [Jadon] Sancho, all these players.”
When asked if he would turn to any of those players, Giggs answers with: “Maybe Hojlund, maybe. Because I thought he was unlucky that there was just one centre-forward at the club really, and everyone was just expecting him to come in and do great.
“I think [Benjamin] Sesko gets more chances, I think we’ve seen that, and scores more goals. But you never know, if you’ve got two young, hungry centre-forwards up front and you’re saying ‘fight it out.’
“You’ve seen that at United, it’s always been a strength of United as well, at any big club, that strength in depth. I always say that training was harder than the game sometimes, if you’ve got Man United centre-halves marking at one end, Hojlund the other end, Sesko in training, it’s going to be competitive.”
When asked where he would like to see United invest in the summer, Giggs said: “I think midfield, without a shadow of a doubt, at least two midfielders.
“It looks like Casemiro is going to go, [Manuel] Ugarte will probably go, so I would say two centre midfielders.
“Three or four midfielders and there’s two spots there, because Bruno [Fernandes] is guaranteed to play 10. There’s four players there, there’s two spots, fight it out.”
Should both Casemiro and Ugarte leave the club, it would leave United with just Kobbie Mainoo, Fernandes and Mason Mount as their only natural central midfield options.
Adding more depth to the squad could be more important this summer with the potential return of Champions League football to Old Trafford next season.
