Former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has delivered a classy message to defender Jonny Evans. The 37-year-old called time on his career after two years with United having featured sporadically throughout his final season at Old Trafford.
Evans played his final professional match for United during their win over Hong Kong on Friday, bringing the curtain down on a career that saw him win three Premier League titles, two FA Cups and League Cups as well as a Champions League and Club World Cup winners medal. He also made over a century of international caps for Northern Ireland, amassing 537 outings for both United and Leicester City.
The central defender returned to United in 2023, initially on a short-term deal during their pre-season build-up, on a one-year deal before he signed a fresh extension, which expired this summer.
In a post to his Instagram story, McTominay wrote: “You are one of the best players, characters and professionals I have had the pleasure to play alongside.
“Very fortunate to share some amazing memories with you. An incredible career and I wish you nothing but the best in your retirement (other than when we play golf).”

Evans got to bid farewell to the club after their final day of the season win over Aston Villa, the players congregated around the centre circle while the defender expressed his gratitude to supporters.
The 37-year-old suffered an injury-disrupted season at United but was said to have played a key role in the dressing room helping the club’s younger players.
Speaking prior to the win over Hong Kong in their final post-season friendly, Ruben Amorim said: “It’s really nice and the level he has in training, you can see the standards in his prime and you understand why they won so many titles.
“With his age, with a lot of problems physically, when he was fit to train, the level was really high. You can understand he was a very good player.”
With Evans departing, it marks a summer of change for United and Amorim with a massively important summer transfer window for the club. Matheus Cunha was confirmed as the first of the summer for the Portuguese and his third signing since replacing Erik ten Hag.
United triggered the £62.5million release clause in Cunha’s contract at the Molineux Stadium, and the forward has signed a five-year contract, with the option of another year.
