‘Second-guessing’ – Michael Carrick impressed by what Bruno Fernandes did in Man United win vs Forest
Bruno Fernandes equalled the single-season Premier League assist record after he set up Bryan Mbeumo during Man Utd’s 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest.

Michael Carrick praised Bruno Fernandes for equalling the Premier League’s assist record and said he felt his captain had dealt with the pressure of it well against Nottingham Forest.
Fernandes created eight chances during United’s 3-2 win and collapsed to the floor after seeing Bryan Mbeumo blaze the best of them into the Stretford End in the second half.
There were times when Fernandes drove United forward in the second half and looked for a pass when he could have taken on a shot, but he got his reward when his low cross was turned in by Mbeumo 14 minutes from time.

Every United player celebrated with Fernandes after he racked up his 20th assist of the season, including goalkeeper Senne Lammens. The Portuguese playmaker is now level with Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne and has the chance to take the record for himself at Brighton next week.
Carrick revealed he hadn’t had a chance to speak to Fernandes about the record so far, but did praise the way he handled the occasion as he chased the moment that would etch his name into the Premier League record books.
“It’s a little bit chaotic down there on the pitch and the changing room, so we’ve not had massively much to say,” said Carrick.
“It’s a tricky one, I think he’s dealt with it really well to be honest because from me watching on from the side, he’s going through at times and you’re thinking what’s gone through his head, you know, is he looking for a pass, is he looking just to score and is he second-guessing it?
“I think he coped with it fantastically well and to get the moment today the way he did it was a really nice moment for everybody and credit to him for that, because it’s not easy but he always puts himself behind the team and the team first and today was another one of those days even though he’s going to get the praise because it is a fantastic achievement obviously.”
