Manchester United have seemingly stepped up their efforts to sign Como midfielder Nico Paz.
On Friday, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United are vying with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur to sign Paz, who is regarded as “one of the hottest names in European football.”
The 20-year-old has proven to be a revelation in Serie A after joining the newly-promoted Como from Real Madrid last summer.
The versatile Argentina international bagged six goals and nine assists in 35 appearances in Italy’s top flight.
It is understood that Real hold a buyback option for their former youth product. However, Xabi Alonso currently has different priorities. This summer, it is United who are pushing to sign Paz the most.
Manchester United readying bid for Nico Paz
According to Fichajes, United are preparing an offer of around €70m to sign the Argentine, as they look to add more creativity to their ranks.
The Spanish outlet report that Como have already rejected Tottenham’s €40m offer.
Chelsea are also monitoring the situation but at the moment, only United are willing to meet the Italian outfit’s financial demands.
With their approach for Brighton sensation Carlos Baleba, the Red Devils have suggested they have money to further reinforce their squad this summer, despite the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko.
Manchester United don’t need Nico Paz
However, Ruben Amorim doesn’t necessarily need a player of Paz’s profile. The Como star mainly thrives as an attacking midfielder.
United already have a number of elite options to play behind the striker. Instead, they need a more defensive minded midfielder to shield the backline.
Paz has the technical prowess to keep the ball and play between the lines, but he lacks the physicality needed to make a significant difference out of possession in the middle of the park.
