Video: Former United star sends fans crazy with 25 yard wonder strike in crucial league fixture

Manchester United’s lack of goals last season was a major factor in Ruben Amorim’s men registering the club’s lowest ever Premier League finish.

INEOS are trying to put that right this summer and will be expected to arm Amorim with sufficient firepower as he enters his first full campaign in charge at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, former United players are showing their skills across the globe with a product of the famous Carrington academy lighting up the South Korean J-League this weekend.

Stunner from Jesse Lingard

After ending his time with United in the summer of 2022, Jesse Lingard is now plying his trade in South Korea after his disappointing spell with Nottingham Forest ended after just 12 months.

Since moving to Asia, Lingard has adapted well after a difficult start and is now producing some fine form for FC Seoul.

The former United man is now captain of the J League outfit and showed his quality with a stunning strike in the 1-0 win over Ulsan HD on Sunday.

Lingard’s dipping 25 yard volley was the highlight of the afternoon as Seoul moved into 4th position in the J League table, just three points from Daejon in 2nd.

After controlling the ball onto his right foot, Lingard’s next touch sent the ball arrowing over the Ulsan ‘keeper into the far top corner of the net, sending the home fans into raptures.

As reported by MSN, speaking to local media after the game, Lingard described the goal as one of his best and made a promise to the Seoul fans there is more to come before the end of the season.

“I personally think it will be among the top five goals of my life. My shot was good, but Hwang Do-yoon’s pass was excellent. I will continue to train hard to not only help the team but also to show my best performance consistently,” said Jesse.

Inspiration needed back at Old Trafford

Lingard’s wonder strike evoked memories of his belting winner in extra time of the FA Cup final in 2016 which granted Louis van Gaal’s side a 2-1 success on the day.

Barring Bruno Fernandes, United have been woefully short of consistent moments of magic in recent times and Ruben Amorim will be desperate to change the mood around the club this summer.

With the capture of Matheus Cunha expected to be followed by the official announcement of Bryan Mbeumo in the coming days, INEOS are attempting to sign the type of player to lift spirits at Old Trafford next season.

United will be expected to dramatically improve on their 15th place finish last year and moments akin to Lingard’s winner on Sunday will be key to getting the club back toward the top echelons of the Premier League.
