Video: Terrific Terland terrorises Brann to make United history as the CL league phase awaits

Manchester United Women roared into the Champions League proper for the first time in the club’s history.

First half

United Women got off to the perfect start and levelled up the tie after just eight minutes against SK Brann.

They had already seen an effort blocked from new signing Jess Park before opening the scoring.

Great pressure high up the pitch resulted in United turning over the ball which led to Jayde Riviere firing in a cross that was not dealt with by the SK Brann defence.

The ball dropped to Elisabeth Terland in the box and the Norwegian fired a first time shot into the net to give United the start they would have dreamt of.

In an electric start to the match, United had turned around their deficit.

After 13 minutes, Julia Zigiotti Olme took a wonderful corner that was met by the lethal Terland who headed the ball into the net to the delight of the Leigh Sports Village.

Terland almost had a third before the half-time whistle but her curling effort smacked the post.

Second half

Melvine Malard raced onto a loose ball by the Brann defence and made a powerful run towards the defence.

She slipped in Terland who found herself one-on-one against the Norwegian’s defence.

The striker made no mistake coolly poking the ball into the corner to wrap up her second hat-trick of the Champions League and her seventh goal of the qualification stage.

United played out the match with little pressure from Brann who were truly blown away by the intensity and quality of the attack with Terland and Malard already in fine nick.

The full time whistle sparked wild celebrations on and off the pitch as history was made at the Leigh Sports Village.

The draw for the league phase will take place later today at 11:00 BST.

Marc Skinner’s side will next be in action when they take on Arsenal at home in the league this Sunday at 14:50 BST.
