Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund has landed in Italy to seal his move to Napoli ahead of transfer deadline day.
All parties reach agreement over Hojlund move
After Romelu Lukaku suffered an injury that is expected to keep him sidelined for multiple months, Napoli entered the fray to snap up Hojlund, who is expected to fill in for the Belgian.
United and Napoli have been in talks for weeks now over a loan deal with an obligation to buy once certain conditions are met.
Earlier today, the reliable Fabrizio Romano revealed that all involved parties had struck a deal. The Partenopei will pay United a loan fee of €6m.
The move includes a buy option worth €44m, which is set to become mandatory if Antonio Conte’s side qualify for the Champions League.
It’s understood that Hojlund is scheduled to have his Napoli medical on Sunday and now, a video has emerged of the Dane touching down in Italy.
In the video, Hojlund can be seen making his way through the airport before boarding a waiting vehicle.
According to Football Italia, Napoli have included an intriguing clause in Hojlund’s contract.
Hojlund contract twist
Football Italia reveal that Napoli have inserted a release clause into Hojlund’s deal, valued at a staggering €90m. Presumably, the release clause will only be activated after the buy option formally becomes an obligation.
After his medical, Hojlund will sign the contract in the presence of Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Napoli slapped the release clause to give them a lot more control over Hojlund’s future in the event that interested parties come in for him in future.
United also retain a 5% sell-on clause as part of their agreement with Napoli, which leaves them in a good position to benefit financially from a future sale.
