Manchester United are a team full of confidence after their victory over Liverpool last weekend.
The result at Anfield was not only their best of the campaign but it was also a display that they could be proud of. From the first whistle United were excellent and they were rewarded with an early goal.
United should have added to their advantage in the first half when Bruno Fernandes clipped the post. While Cody Gakpo’s equaliser came as a bitter blow at the time, it was nothing more than the Reds deserved when Harry Maguire nodded home the winner.
It has been well documented that the win over Liverpool saw United record back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time under Amorim, and the Reds will be hoping to make it three in a row on Saturday when Brighton arrive at Old Trafford.
United managed to set the tone perfectly at Anfield thanks to their overload down the right-hand side in the opening moments. Amad and Bryan Mbeumo caused the Liverpool backline no end of problems in the first 45 minutes in particular.
Virgil van Dijk did not know whether he was coming or going with the two players attacking that side. Matthijs de Ligt spoke after the game about knowing to target the Liverpool full-backs and doing similar on Saturday could expose Ferdi Kadioglu if he starts once again.
Brighton play in the same 4-2-3-1 system as Liverpool and it is expected that Danny Welbeck will lead the line as Alexander Isak did on Sunday.
United will need to watch out for the through ball from deep that caught them out last weekend – with Senne Lammens bailing them out with a fine save from Isak. Fabian Hurzeler will have watched United at Liverpool and may look to expose the backline with similar through balls from deep.
But if United can expose the opposition full-backs, as they did at Anfield, they could enjoy another fruitful outing.
