Alejandro Garnacho savaged and branded ‘a disgrace’ over behaviour at Man United

Alejandro Garnacho’s Manchester United tenure ended on a sour note with Ruben Amorim selling the Argentinian

Nicky Butt has launched a scathing attack on Alejandro Garnacho, claiming the former Manchester United winger developed a “high opinion of himself” far too quickly and wasn’t “that great anyway”.

The Argentinian initially made his mark at Old Trafford, with several standout moments, before completing a summer switch to Chelsea and falling out with the club’s hierarchy.

Garnacho fell out of favour under Ruben Amorim and found himself frozen out. He was left on the bench for the Europa League final, responding furiously on social media, before later posting pictures of himself wearing an Aston Villa shirt bearing Marcus Rashford’s name.

Having made his desire to leave abundantly clear, United were more than willing to sanction his departure. Butt was at the helm of the club’s academy when Garnacho first arrived, and while the youngster clearly had ability, his conduct in his final weeks was wholly unacceptable.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad and The Football, Butt said: “I thought he had an edge about him. And when he got into the first team – I will just say what I think because I was there – he got above his station way too quick. He got superstar status way too quick.

“And that’s not a former player saying they get paid too much, I hope young players get paid millions, but he got superstar status too quick and he obviously scored the bicycle kick which was phenomenal.

” Someone in that club or team at the time should have been swatting him down, and they might have been, and he ignored them.

“But the best thing United did was sell him because, forget his ability, and I don’t think he is that great anyway, but I thought his attitude was a disgrace when he was at United.

“More importantly when he left, and if you completely disrespect your teammates and the football club when you leave, then that’s it.”

Despite agitating for a departure, Garnacho has found himself largely a rotation option at Chelsea. He’s been named in the starting XI on 14 occasions for the Blues but has struggled to make a sustained impression given the club’s abundance of attacking options.

Last week, he seemingly removed all Chelsea-related content from his TikTok account, before featuring for the Blues at the weekend as they suffered defeat against his former employers.

It extended their disappointing recent run and raised further questions over whether they will secure qualification for next season’s Champions League.
